Cooking with Super Why! At ShopRite

The Kids Cook Monday teamed up with Produce for KidsShopRite and Sprout Network to put on a fun-filled event at a ShopRite store in Morristown, New Jersey.

We were thrilled to have such a great turnout! More than 75 kids showed up to learn healthy cooking tips from ShopRite’s registered dietitian Jessica Guarnieri and the store’s culinary instructor, Chef Danny Arturo. The kids cooked Power SmoothiesPB Fruit Roll-Ups and Chocolatey Fruit Skewers and had a chance to meet and take pictures with some of Sprout Network’s most popular characters, Super Why and Princess Presto, live and in person!

Each child received a Kids Cook Monday chef hat and a healthy gift bag from Produce for Kids, an organization that encourages parents and kids to eat more healthy produce at home.

Jessica was kind enough to answer a few of our burning questions about the exciting event and why it’s so important to get kids cooking:

What was your favorite moment of the event?

My favorite part of the event was watching the children making and eating the recipes. I love to see children enjoying healthy food, especially while still having fun!!

Which recipe did the kids like the most?

The kids seemed to like the Chocolatey Fruit Skewers the most. They loved skewering the fruits and then adding a little bit of chocolate to them. They all had a different way of assembling their skewers and seemed to enjoy showing them off to each other.

How did the Sprout characters encourage healthy living?

The Sprouts characters encouraged healthy eating by giving positive reinforcement during the class. The characters also handed out goody bags that had healthy information in them, making it fun for the children to eat healthfully at home.
